Our Programs
The ANHS Instrumental Music Program includes performers and musicians on the field, the gym and on stage. From the 70+ musicians in the Marching Band, the 20+ performers in the Color Guard and 100+ musicians in the Concert Bands and Ensembles musical arts are thriving at Aliso Niguel High school. Below is a brief description about each group.
On the Field
Marching Band
Competing during the Fall Marching Band Season, the ANHS Marching Band begins training as soon as school gets out and continues throughout the summer. As a member of the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association, the Marching Band performs at home ANHS football games during half-time and competes at venues throughout Southern California.
Color Guard
Complementing and enhancing the Marching Band performance, the ANHS Color Guard performs and competes with the Marching Band during the Fall Season. Displaying a variety of skills, including dance and equipment work, the Color Guard’s impressive visuals heighten the Marching Band field performance.
On the Stage
Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert ensemble at ANHS. Participation in this ensemble will require attendance at all scheduled concerts and festivals. Students will learn and perform literature from various musical genres. Members in this ensemble will be held responsible for the highest level of instrumental proficiency and are strongly encouraged to take private lessons on their instrument. Enrollment in this class is based on auditions held in the spring semester.
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is the primary feeder and training ground for the Wind Ensemble. In this class, students will focus on advanced fundamental music skills and will be exposed to various musical genres. Participation in this ensemble will require attendance at all scheduled concerts and festivals. This class may require attendance at out-of-class scheduled rehearsals.
Concert Band
The Concert Band is the primary feeder and training ground for the Symphonic Band. In this class, students will focus on basic fundamental music skills and will be exposed to various musical genres. Participation in this ensemble will require attendance at all scheduled concerts and festivals. This class may require attendance at out-of-class scheduled rehearsals.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band is an auditioned band that meets during 3rd period in the spring semester. Jazz Band music is written for a specific instrumentation and therefore students must audition to enroll in this class. During the spring semester the Jazz Band performs at school and community functions, concerts and festivals. Students enrolled in Jazz Band must also be enrolled in a Concert ensemble.
In the Gym
Winter Drumline
Participation in this Percussion class is based on auditions held in the spring. In this class, members will work on technique and music performance. Winter Drumline begins at the end of Fall Marching Band season and will last until Drumline Championships in April. The Drumline will perform as members of the Marching Band during the Fall season and are required to enroll in 3rd period Marching Band in order to participate in Winter Drumline. During second semester, members will enroll in the 7th period Drumline class. This class will require additional practices and performances outside of class time.
Winter Color Guard
Participation in this Guard class are based on auditions held in December. In this class, members will work on technique in equipment and dance. Winter Guard begins at the end of Fall Marching Band season and will last until season Championships in April. The Color Guard will perform as members of the Marching Band during the Fall season and are required to enroll in 3rd period Marching Band in order to participate in Winter Guard. During second semester, members will enroll in the 3rd period Color Guard class. This class will require additional practices and performances outside of class time.
