David Weinberg, Director of Bands
Now in his tenth year as Director of Bands at ANHS, David Weinberg is a graduate of CSU Long Beach, where he earned his BM Degree and Teaching Credential. He is currently pursuing his Masters Degree at the American Band College in Ashland, Oregon.
In addition to his current position at ANHS, David has served as director of bands at a number of Southern California schools, including: assistant director at Mater Dei HS from 1983-1997; Band Director at Santa Margarita Catholic HS from 1997-2006; Instrumental Music Director at El Toro HS in 2006-2007; and Instrumental Music Director at JSerra Catholic HS in San Juan Capistrano from 2007-2009.
During the course of Mr. Weinberg’s career, his marching band programs have won several championships, including the posting of undefeated field seasons. His Wind Ensembles and Jazz Bands have won numerous Superior ratings. David has also developed a very large Steel Drum Band that has performed at Downtown Disney, The Irvine Spectrum and the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
Mr. Weinberg has developed an elementary music program for several private schools in South Orange County. This program now provides music education for over 100 elementary and middle school students.
David has been an instructor for over 200 high school music programs, and has designed over 1500 Field Shows for high school marching bands from all over the country. While a student at Long Beach State, he wrote drill for the CSULB 49ers Marching Band. From 2002-2008, he wrote drill for the JSU Marching Southerners from Jacksonville, Alabama. Mr. Weinberg has also written drill for various drum and bugle corps throughout the nation, and has also been a member of the Anaheim Kingsmen and the World Champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. David was also recently the Drill Designer and Staff member with the Kingsmen Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps that performed at the 2007 Drum Corp International Championships in Pasadena, CA.
Mr. Weinberg has served as a judge for Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association, Drum Corps World, Winter Guard Association of Southern California and Winter Guard International. He is currently a member of SCSBOA, Western Band Association, Music Educators National Conference (NAfME) and the California Music Education Association.
David currently resides in Mission Viejo with his wife Hope and their two children, Danyell and Shay.
Brian Dinkel, Front Ensemble Instructor/Arranger/Sound Designer
For over 17 years, Brian has been in demand as a performer, teacher, composer and arranger based in the Southern California area. In that time, he has performed with internationally renowned artists such as Peter Erskine, Alex Acuna, Tom Scott and the late Ed Shaughnessy. Brian attended California State University, Northridge where he studied with John Magnussen, Karen Ervin-Pershing, and Jerry Steinholtz. In addition, Brian has had the privilege of teaching and designing for some of the most highly decorated programs in the world.
Brian has been on the staff of Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps since 2009, and is currently the Front Ensemble Caption Head as well as Front Ensemble Arranger/Sound Designer for the 17-time DCI World Champion.
Since 2004, Brian has worked at Riverside City College, in Riverside, California. Currently, Brian serves as the Front Ensemble Caption Head and Designer for the internationally renowned RCC Marching Tigers, and as the Front Ensemble Manager for five-time WGI World Champion – RCC Indoor Percussion.
Brian resides in Tustin, California and works primarily as a composer/arranger/sound designer for many highly decorated programs in Southern California and around the world. Additionally, Brian is the director of the Southern California Percussion Ensemble Festival, held annually in Irvine, California.♦♦•
James Herman, Battery Instructor/Technician
James has been involved in percussion for most of his life but officially began his drumming career in 2004 at Magnolia Jr High for the Marching and Concert band. He then continued his career at Chino High School in 2006 where he marched Tenor Drum all four years for Competitive Field Season in SCSBOA and Indoor Drumline in both SCPA and WGI. After graduating from Chino High, James had the privilege of performing for two Drumcorps. In 2011 he marched with the Gold Drum & Bugle Corps in Open Class and then continued his career at Academy Drum & Bugle Corps in World Class where he marched in 2012 and aged-out in 2013. During his marching career, James was fortunate enough to learn from some of the best minds in the marching world and hopes to be able to honor those who gave him so much by passing on that knowledge and experience to his students.
While being driven by wanting to have his students to achieve excellence James also wants to provide an environment of hard work, honor, respect, and joy where students can learn valuable life lessons and to love the marching activity.
Outside of teaching at Aliso Niguel, James is a recent graduate of Vanguard University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and emphasis in Finance and Strategic Marketing. He also recently began his career with Quality Systems Inc. in their corporate office in Irvine as the Financial Analyst for their Research and Development department.

Josh was introduced to music and the marching activity at a very early age. Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, he marched 3 years at Kilties Drum and Bugle corps, 3 seasons as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks NBA drum line, and 4 years as a marching member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle corps.
For the past 7 years Josh has been teaching high school marching bands in the state of Wisconsin and in the Southern California area.
