SYMPHONIC BAND – Period 1
The Symphonic Band is the primary feeder and training ground for the wind ensemble. In this class, students will focus on advanced fundamental music skills and will be exposed to music various musical genres. Participation in this ensemble will require attendance at all scheduled concerts and festivals. This class may require attendance to out of class scheduled rehearsals if necessary.
CONCERT BAND – Period 2
The Concert Band is the primary feeder and training ground for the Symphonic Band. In this class, students will focus on basic fundamental music skills and will be exposed to music various musical genres. Participation in this ensemble will require attendance at all scheduled concerts and festivals. This class may require attendance to out of class scheduled rehearsals if necessary.
MARCHING BAND – Period 3 (fall semester)
Members of the marching band will belong to the most visible unit of the ANHS music program. Participation in this ensemble requires participation at field show competitions, traveling, out of class practice, football games, pep rallies and parades. The competitive marching band begins over summer and culminates at the WBA State Championships – traditionally held the weekend before thanksgiving. The schedule is based around the season’s field show tournaments and football game dates. The marching band has been a consistent contender for the state title and a lab fee is required for participation in this ensemble. Students in marching band must be enrolled in a concert/guard ensemble class and 3rd period PE band. In addition to third period, the entire group rehearses on Mondays from 5-9 p.m. and on selected Fridays and Saturdays listed in the fall calendar.
JAZZ BAND – Period 3 (spring semester)
The Jazz Band is an auditioned band that meets during 3rd period in the spring semester. Jazz band music is written for a specific instrumentation and therefore students must audition to enroll in this class. During the spring semester the jazz band perform at school and community functions, concerts and festivals. Students enrolled in jazz band must also be enrolled in a concert ensemble.
WIND ENSEMBLE – Period 4
The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert ensemble at ANHS. Participation in this ensemble will require attendance at all scheduled concerts and festivals. Enrolment in this class is based on auditions held in the spring semester. In this class, students will learn and perform literature from various musical genres. Members in this ensemble will be held responsible for the highest level of instrumental proficiency and are strongly encouraged to take private lessons on their instrument.
WINTER PERCUSSION CLASS – Period 7
Members of the percussion class are based on auditions held in the spring. The drum line and pit will perform as members of the marching band during the fall season and are required to enroll in 3rd period Marching Band PE during the fall and 7th period Percussion class in the spring. In this class, members will work on technique and music performance. Participation in the fall season is required in order to participate in Winter Percussion. Winter Percussion beings at the end of marching season and will last until season championships in April. There will be an additional spring lab fee that will be set before winter auditions. This class will require additional practices and performances outside of class time.
COLOR GUARD CLASS – Period 3
Members of the guard class are based on auditions held in the spring. The Color Guard will perform as members of the marching band during the fall season and are required to enroll in 3rd period Marching Band PE. In the spring members shall enroll in the 3rd period Color Guard class. In this class, members will work on technique in equipment and dance. Participation in the fall season is required in order to participate in Winter Guard. Winter Guard beings at the end of marching season and will last until season championships in April. There will be an additional spring fee that will be set before winter auditions. This class will require additional practices and performances outside of class time.
